Inspiration Shoot :: Southern Vintage

We'll end the day with another set of gorgeous inspiration via this lovely shoot, sent in by Mike Colon from his recent photography workshop.  Joy Thigpen, an SW favorite, was the mastermind behind the styling.  The tough black heels with the delicate lace dress?  The purple artichokes nestled into the iris centerpieces?  The black tablecloth and marble placecards and old hymn book menus?  Yes, yes please.  Read on for a few more details behind the day!

"We wanted something retro, romantic, whimsical, and intimate, but with a little punch to it.  Some of our inspiration came from a shoot W Magazine did with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie a few years back.  After brainstorming with Joy, she just ran with it.

The anticipation and excitement the day of the shoot built by the minute.  As the photographers drove up, they were welcomed into a little oasis created by Joy and her team.  It was nothing short of amazing.  The photographers at Mike's workshop were just giddy, like kids in a candy store.  The day was filled with hard work, laughter, and new friendships... we'd say it was a success!"

Because this was a workshop, the photography comes from a cross-section of the participants, including Reggie Joiner, Megan Metcalf, Alice Virden-Speer, Ethan Yang, Pesh, Rachel Kabukala, Rosanna Marie, and Ana Gabriel.  Kudos to all!

Vendors: Styling and decor: Joy Thigpen / Models: Susanna and Kenneth McMillian / Makeup and hair: Lauren Bricken / Invitations: Paisley Papers / Gown: Allie from Impressions Bridal / Lead photographer: Mike Colon / Location: Waters Mill Weddings and Events

Noooo way. This is too beautiful for words. But if I could speak, I would tell you that the menus are so genius...I love that they are actually restaurant-style menus and not just a lousy piece of paper. This is so utterly divine!

I got married at Waters Mill in May of this year, and it was just as beautiful as these pictures! Everyone there was the epitome of "Southern Grace and Charm". They worked so hard to make everything go smoothly for us, and I didn't have to worry about a thing except to enjoy my day in one of the most beautiful and scenic locations that I've ever been in.
