Southern Bridals: Sara in South Carolina

Oh hi, lovely Sara, so nice to see you on the blog today!  Continuing with our theme of something new and different on Tuesdays and Thursdays, today we bring you Sara's bridal portraits, shot by Richard Ellis of Ellis Photography.  Sara chose her quaint hometown in South Carolina as the backdrop for these images, and I must say, she made a fine Southern choice.  Spanish moss?  Check.  Tree-lined avenues?  Check.  A glorious old home and a bayou straight out of The Notebook?  Check and check.  Read on for more details about Sara's gorgeous Lula Kate dress!

P.S. I know so many of you are over the stranglehold strapless dresses appear to have on the bridal fashion market.  What do you think of Sara's skinny straps?  I'm digging them!

On her dress...

"I purchased my wedding dress at Lula Kate (on King Street, in Charleston).  They're known for their bridesmaid dresses, so as I was picking those out I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they also made wedding dresses."

On her shoot location...

"I chose my home for the bridal shots because it's what I love!  My sisters and I are the fifth generation of our family to grow up there, so you can imagine the wealth of family history and sentiment."

On her photographers...

"The experience was wonderful!  When choosing a photographer, Richard was the only one that I met with; his credentials spoke volumes and left me with no doubt in his ability.  Richard and Gillian made the bridal shoot a light-hearted good time, entertaining any and every idea or suggestion I had."

From her sister and maid of honor, Chrissie...

"I know it was very important to Sara and Jason to have our home be a part of their wedding day.  I remember, when we were all talking about possible locations, Jason said, 'Sara, you can have your wedding in a banquet hall or a plantation, or you can drive up this lane every day and remember your wedding day.' I think that made the decision for her."

YES I am so over the strapless dress look, honestly. I am so glad more and more looks are shown everywhere with straps or full necklines!

I love her straps! I hated I had to wear strapless for my debutante ball. I really want straps for my wedding.

These are fabulous images! I just LOVE the image of Sara looking at her home where she grew up. I love the angle which makes Sara appear so small in front of the house - sort of like she's a little girl playing wedding day dress up! (which I'm sure she did there!) Great job Richard and Gillian!
