One of my favorite events that I hosted was our first birthday party at our new home. I cooked, decorated and entertained our guests as we celebrated my husband's birthday. All of our friends came and really enjoyed the food I cooked, company and good wine. We all had a blast! I love to cook and entertain our guests so I would really love the aprons! They are gorgeous and I would be in style!
The couple's wedding shower hosted for us this past weekend! Everything was done up in our wedding colors...even our ribbon was used! It was so thoughtful. :)
The most recent event that I loved hosting, was my fiance's birthday brunch at our apartment, with friends and family. He loves southern food, so I spent all night and the following morning preparing the spread. I was exhausted afterwards, but it was all worth it.
I love hosting dinner parties. Part of the excitement is running around getting the menu picked and how the logistics will work. Have been carless in DC for five years so grocery shopping is always an adventure. But then the best part is sitting around the table positively stuffed, drinking wine and laughing with good friends or getting to know new ones.
My favorite event so far has been when my fiance and I moved back to New England. Hosting our first Thanksgiving let us show our parents that we were "all grown up". We were happy to finally entertain the people closest to us.
I did hair and make up for my boss's daughter's bat-mitzvah. It was held at the Ritz in Washington, DC and was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I'm from sweet home Alabama and had never been to something so formal and so fancy in my entire life! I almost decided to switch professions and become an event coordinator. It was amazing and something I'll never forget.
The best party I have ever hosted would be a fish fry with my family. My grandpa is a serious fisherman, and his freezer is always full of fish. So one day we decided to have a big fish fry. My grandmother and I made hushpuppies, macaroni and cheese and a bunch of other comfort food. It was a great way to get the family together, and to get rid of all that fish!
I just helped host a graduation open house for my younger brother. We hosted 120 people at my home and since I had planned everything ahead of time, it was all very simple and stress-free. My brother could socialize with all his guests - he grew up with some severe disabilities and has had a rough year, so it was such a pleasure to see him taking on that adult role with hospitality and grace. The sun was shining and the country breeze was blowing through all the open windows - a perfect day!
The most special events hands down were the “coffee table parties” that my grandmother and I held when I was little. On a Friday or Saturday night, my parents would drop my sister and I off at my grandparents and we would get to host parties at the coffee table for my grandpa. We would slice cheeses and hot dogs and arrange them in shapes on trays. We would drape blankets over the coffee table and bring in flowers from her garden for décor. My grandmother even let us turn out all the lights and light candles. ( I’m sure my poor Grandpa LOVED all the candle light while trying to watch his football! Ha!) Though the parties I throw these days are quite a bit different, I truly believe that my love for hosting and planning parties grew from those small coffee table parties. Such good memories!
My favorite event is my huge family's 4th of July get together filled with lots of food and lots of fun! Unless there is another big event (like a wedding or graduation) its the only time we all get to see eachother.
I loved hosting our lasted housewarming! It was such a great feeling to know that this "house/apt" was my home, the place that I am going to start my life with my future husband. It's the first time I'll get to live with a boy (ooo), the first time for so many things! It was def such an awesome precursor to the best event I will have planned - my wedding! yay
I love having dinner parties! Making a list, planning a menu, shopping & putting it all together!
This is such a cute giveaway . . . I love aprons!!! I actually wear my current one all the time. My favorite event has always been Christmas Eve Dinner at my parents house. Amazing food, good friends, and so much fun. We like to call it the misfit chrismas because anyone who doesn't have a place to go is always invited over. It is just such a wonderful time!!!
I hosted Christmas dinner for my Daddy's family at my place. My favorite part was just seeing the smiles on everyone's faces as they enjoyed the food and desserts. It really was such a great time!
My most favorite event to host was a Christmas Cocktail Shower for one of my best friends. We decorated the home where we held the shower with all of her gifts, including monogrammed stockings on the fireplace and a holiday wreath on the front door. This way she was able to see what her new home would look like at Christmas time. It was so much fun planning the menu and being able to serve hot chocolate and apple cider, and all things festive to eat!
As a child, I loved my grandma's bridge parties! Gigi is such a great old-fashioned hostess - she brings out the china and silver, bakes up a storm, serves sweet tea and cucumber sandwiches and wears pretty dresses with pearls. Even at 80, she still hosts a monthly bridge game, and I'd love to give her a stylish apron to wear in the kitchen.
My favorite parties to host are fondue parties with friends... it's a great way to spend the evening with friends while having good food and conversation--the food is entertainment alone!
But as for events that I enjoy attending... I love having family dinner at my grandmother's house. For all of my life we have had Sunday afternoon dinner at her house, no matter how big the family is or how old we are, Grandma always makes a wonderful meal for us to enjoy together.
(obviously I love events centered around food... how perfect for an apron giveaway!)
The party that I will always, always remember was about 20 years ago at a family reunion in the Outer Banks of NC. I was only about five, but my little sister was still a babe in arms, and I remember my father carrying her around in his big muscular arms. I can remember being appalled at my cousins' table manners and thinking that the mac n cheese casserole was delicious. I had my first hula hoop contest. We did all kinds of family reunion type games, and we ate all kinds of delicious, beachy, Southern food. That was one of the last family gatherings while my father was alive, so it was special for all kinds of reasons. I hope to take my own kids to family reunions that are that fun one day.
My favorite event was the latest bachelorette party that I attended. It was good times with good friends! Nothing can beat that :)
My favorite party to attend/host was the night before Easter when we dyed Easter eggs. It started at my mother's dining room table covered in newspapers with the colored dye in mismatched coffee cups. Even when I was in college my older brothers and I would come home to dye eggs and spend the night.
When I moved across the country and couldn't fly home for Easter, I began the tradition among my friends. Now several of my friends come over. We open a bottle of wine or two, turn on some tunes, and have a GREAT time! Many of my friends hadn't dyed eggs for 15 years! It really brings the kid out in everyone.
To bring it home to my roots, I always make a Texas flag egg. I use the clear wax crayon to draw a star on one half and dip it in blue dye. Then I use the crayon to color in the top quarter of the egg and dip that half in red dye. When it is all said and done, it looks like the Texas flag. Yeah, I'm a big dork.
Family dinner night with my hilarious grandmother.
Growing up my parents would host Sunday night dinner parties at their house once a month. I really enjoyed these because my mom definitely had the 1950s housewife look. My father did most of the cooking but she always looked perfect in her apron as she served dessert.
My favorite event happened this past weekend -- my brother just got married to a wonderful girl. At the beginning of the ceremony the minister talked about how this wedding wasn't only about the joining of two people, but the joining of two families. This was so true. During their relaitonship, our families have become friends -- real friends, and this was very evident to everyone at the wedding. It was truly one of the happiest days and everyone was happy for different reasons. I was happy to be gaining a sister, a real sister that I love. I just hope that at my wedding in 4 months, two more families can truly join. Just like my Dad says, "I'm not giving anything away at my daughters wedding, I'm gaining so much!"
My girlfriend is the hostess with the mostest, as for aprons she has a stylish Asian silk apron and when she wears it in her kitchen with her cat eye glasses she looks fabulous. She throws theme parties and my favorite was her "ginger party". She made a four layer ginger cake that used several lbs of ginger in the cake, the creme, the crust, I have to admit I do not know how she does it, but it is always delicious. Her parties are my, and many peoples, favorites.
My favorite event that I have hosted so far was my college graduation party. (It's been a few years now!) It was a chance for me to celebrate a great achievement with people on all sides of my family that I hadn't seen in ages. It was also a great moment for relatives from different branches of the family tree to reconnect after not having seen each other for many years. I have some treasured photos of family members deep in conversation or laughing outrageously with each other.
These aprons are adorable! Thank you so much for the contest!
