Karen Tran: Lady Slipper Bouquets

Happy Thursday, everyone!  Get ready for another inspiring post from guest blogger Karen Tran.  Be sure to check out all of her previous posts: I, II, III, IV, and V.

When you think of orchids for your wedding flowers, you may first consider cymbidium orchids or perhaps phaleanopsis orchids (the ones you often see in a pot).  However, a great addition to these exotic beauties is paphiopedilum, commonly known as the lady slipper. The name Paphiopedilum is derived from the Greek words Paphius and pedilon, which refer to shoes. These orchids originated in the Far East, although they are easily grown here in the States. The bouquets below were shipped to our studio from the island of Hawaii. Though they look fragile, they are quiet durable and can withstand the whole wedding day if your florist takes good care to pre-treat them once they arrive. They come in a wide range of vivid colors and can add a spectacular finish to your personal bouquets.  Aren't the varied colors gorgeous?

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this! I absolutely love this flower and I agree, people tend to go with phalaenopsis and cymbidiums, but this flower is so stunning and is something different and beautiful.
