Real Wedding: Addie + Jacob

Addie + Jacob had one terrific backyard wedding in Virginia.  The day was complete with a beautiful backdrop and a floral masterpiece of a huppah.  All floral arrangements were created by {Leslie Hartig Floral Designs}, catering by {Catering Concepts}, lighting by Jeremy Kilgore of {Blue Steel Pro Lighting}, and fabulous mini cakes created by Myra Rivera of Creative Cakes.  Photography by {Sam Hughes Photography}.  Check out Sam's blog to see even more terrific shots {here}.  Thank you so much, Sam, for sharing this gorgeous wedding with us today!  Isn't the lighting spectacular!?

How did the two of you meet? While Addie was on a weekend trip with a long time girlfriend down to Hatteras Island.
Describe the proposal: We took the dogs for a walk on the beach out behind our house. Jacob pretended like something was in our dog Caine’s paw and asked me to come over to help him out with it. He was on his knee and all of a sudden the ring dropped out of Caine’s paw. He had tons of sweet words about how much he loved me and why he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. The rest was history!
Why do you love your husband? His completely unconditional love for me.
The weather on our wedding day was: Windy and overcast during the day, then right before the wedding the clouds broke and we had a beautiful sunset.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? White, laid back, lounge style.
Favorite design element of your big day: Tons of white lanterns hanging from all the trees. They really gave the night the look I was going for.
Describe your wedding flowers: Mainly all white except for some pink peonies. I absolutely love peonies!
Describe your wedding cake: We had lots of miniature wedding cakes for everyone, including flavors like red velvet and chocolate. They were covered in a light blue fondant with white flowers. I loved that people could take the extras home in sweet little boxes.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The photo booth! All of our guests loved it & the pictures we got from it were hilarious. We’ll cherish those pictures for a long time.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Keeping the numbers down. Because it was in my parents backyard we tried to keep the guest list under 150, which is really hard to do when you start adding up all your family and friends. Of course we wanted everyone there, but ultimately we had to narrow down the list.
What was the most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the isle. Seeing everyone there for the first time and the huppah all lit up it was beautiful!
Scariest moment: My mom was really stressing that we weren’t going to have a sunset because of the clouds, but just as people started to show up the clouds cleared and we had a gorgeous sunset.
Three adjectives that describe the day: Fun, laidback, beautiful.
What advice would you give someone planning their wedding? Don’t stress out so much! People seem to get consumed in the idea of everything going perfectly. With expectations of perfection there is so much room for disappointment. There were things that didn’t go exactly as planned on our wedding night, but because I didn’t dwell on them they weren’t even an issue in the end. Just relax, and have fun!

Congrats to Addie + Jacob.  We wish them a lifetime of joy!

Hi Stephanie,

We're contacting the bride, and will let you know as soon as we find out who designed her gorgeous dress!

Lindsey

Big thanks to Sam Hughes who called Addie and got the answer to our readers dress questions. From Sam: "Addie's dress was designed by Augusta Jones and I believe the style was "Chenoa." She purchased the dress from Pure English, which is a shop in Virginia Beach, VA." Hope that helps!
